You’ve Got Mail – the Online Romantic Story of Cortney & Andrew

February marks that time of year where we like to share the love. For most, Valentine’s Day is another Hallmark holiday filled with cards, chocolate and flowers. The story of a Marine, Andrew and a young lady from the south, Cortney will fill your heart with tears of joy as if you were watching the Hallmark Channel. This sweet couple met on Match.com and the first time they met in person was on Valentine’s Day. Andrew instantly messaged her back as he found her attractive as well. Soon after they exchanged numbers as well as decided to Skype. All the guys in the barracks often asked who I was talking to; we had agreed that she was “my not girlfriend” until we met in person.

“I remember the first time I saw her on skype; the pictures didn’t do her beauty justice.”

Four weeks later, they decided it was time to meet. Thursday, February 14th Andrew jumped in his truck and headed on the 10 hour drive to Orlando to meet for the very first time. When he arrived, he had a dozen roses ready to present to her. Cortney approached the truck, they hugged and off they went to Lake Eola to take her dog, Marley for a walk and get to know each other. We stopped on the pier, talked for a while, and then we shared our first kiss.

Their final night out was when he knew he would ask her to be his girlfriend. She was dropping hints regularly, mentioning that she was “my not girlfriend” at least 3-4 times. Andrew just wanted to wait for the perfect time. Cortney still teases him about this.

When they first realized they loved one another was after they spent a long weekend together. Andrew was on a plane for a 45 day training in the desert and the first thing he was thinking as the plane took off was that if it doesn’t make it that he would not have told her that he loved her.

Cortney says “I knew I was in love with him when he met my entire family, he was nervous but they instantaneously took him into my family as one of their own. Being accepted by my family was huge for me as I am a big family person. Seeing him engage in such a positive way with all of my family was something that I had never experienced before in past relationships and I knew that there was something special about him.”

Before the proposal it was important to Andrew to ask her dad before he asked her. It was way more painless than expected. For the proposal, Andrew had just gotten back from a 7 month deployment. Andrew claims the difficulties in making the proposal happen. He had to make an excuse to be alone in order to pick up the ring; which was packaged in a huge box that had to be hidden under his hoodie. He took her back to the place of their first “date”… the pier at Lake Eola, where he had planned to walk around the lake. They finally arrived to the pier and they just talked for a bit, then he had a short speech planned. “Remember how I made you wait almost the whole weekend to be my girlfriend? I didn’t want to make you wait long for me to ask this question.” He got down on one knee and asked her to marry him and immediately she said yes.
